Put Away Childish Things

Focus: 1 Corinthians 13:11 - KJV

11. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

1 Corinthians 13:9-12

In the days of our infancy, we were taught that the devil was a black human-like being with horns and that was the level of our understanding as children. Hence, until we saw a black human creature with horns, we had not encountered the devil. Meanwhile, the word of God gives us insight that the devil can even appear as angel of light. Such childlike thoughts kept us away from the understanding of the truth and reality of matters. However, from the time we grew into having clearer insight into matters, our understanding is much deeper and we speak from the point of insight and knowledge. Therefore, once we have this better insight, we ought to cast away childish thoughts and dwell more on the new insight. It becomes really disturbing when, as an adult, we begin to do or say or think in a childish manner. It puts off those who ordinarily should be our contemporaries or companions.

The things of God are not different in this concern. The Lord expects us to grow out of childish thoughts and come to the understanding of deep things even as we grow in the body of Christ. A time is, when a convert is expected to dwell on the milk of the word, at which time, like a child, he is put under teachers to guide him and constantly feed him so that he may be well nourished. When his food is delayed, he cries for the attention of the handler. Nevertheless, a season comes when the same child is expected to ingest solid meals to grow better thereby, form words and make big strides in movement unlike a solitary babe. If the same refuses to so grow, then there is concern in the minds of the handlers. God expects us also to show growth as parts of His body, bringing forth fruit that depicts our having left childish things but think and understand based on our growth. It is great disservice to the body for adults in faith not to be manly but childish in their thoughts and understanding.

SOLUTION: Let us be careful to show understanding of the things of God, not like children but like men. The things of God are found true in Christ who alone is the truth and the life. Follow Him, alone.

Please pray:

·      Give thanks to God today for the extent of growth you have experienced in the body of Christ

·      Ask God to please reveal Himself to you the more in truth that you may know Him better

·      Tell God to manifest His promises in your life that the world may through you glorify Him

If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name.
