Servant Leaders

ree

Focus: Matthew 20:26-27 - KJV

26. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

Luke 9:46-48

The Lord is the Master of everyone that comes to Him and makes Him their Lord. However, even though He be the Master, yet He has been in service to all that come to Him, giving them rest and making sure they enjoy His peace as against the peace of the world. In the same light, He wants everyone who is His “servant” whom He dubs “friend” to be like Him in relation to every other person they are appointed to lead. When the leader serves the follower, he becomes quite great in that the follower leans on him for everything in the ministerial journey, just like we all lean on Christ.

Jesus Christ did not consider it robbery to be equal with God: He surrendered Himself to serve man whom He created, by the way, and whom He came to rescue from the jaws of death. While on earth, He demonstrated how to be a servant-leader by washing the feet of His disciples. He submitted Himself to be baptized of John who frontally confessed that he could not lose the straps of his sandals, and first refused to take the assignment. And what He instructed others to do was to emulate Him by doing the same. Hence, He was clear to let them know that the one that must be leader must be the servant of all. He indeed indicated leadership with childlikeness, which many ignore today.

The Lord is saying He has not called us to boss His sheep but to feed them like He instructed us when telling Peter how to love Him. If we do boss those He puts in our care, and treat them as servants, we fail to obey His clear and unambiguous instruction. He is reminding us that those who must lead must be servant to them that are being led, and not the other way round. When we begin to do this, even our churches will be better haven for the children of God.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you for enrolling me into your service. The grace to continue to serve and not assume the role of an emperor over your flock, please bestow the more on me, in Jesus’ name. Let the Spirit of humility that will make me wash the feet of them that you put in my care rest mightily on me from today so that no matter what any of them does, I will be meek to endure, and correct in love, to the glory of your name, in the mighty name of Jesus. Make this day a day of rejoicing in service, and let there be a shining for service upon every servant-leader, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
