The Evidence of His Presence

"And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand."— Genesis 39:2-3 (KJV)

Joseph’s circumstances were disastrous. He had been betrayed by his brothers, torn away from his father, and sold into a foreign country as a slave. Physically, he was at rock bottom, stripped of his freedom and identity. Yet, the text makes a striking declaration: Joseph was a prosperous man. This completely flips the world’s definition of success. Biblical prosperity is not determined by your location, your title, or your bank balance. True prosperity is the tangible presence of God in your life. Because the Lord was with Joseph, his status as a slave could not stop his progress.

Notice that Joseph didn't have to announce his relationship with God; his master saw it. The divine presence was so evident in Joseph's work ethic, attitude, and results that an unbelieving Egyptian recognized the hand of God. When you are faithful in the small, unfair assignments of life, God vindicates you by making everything you touch turn into a blessing. Your current environment might look like a prison or a pit, but if God is with you, you are already set up for success. 

God does not need you to be in a position of power to bless you; His presence alone makes you prosperous wherever you are. Your daily excellence, integrity, and output should be so clear that even people who do not know God can see His favor on your life. Do not wait for your circumstances to change before you give your best effort. Joseph thrived in a house of bondage because he worked unto the Lord. Are you waiting for a better job, a promotion, or a change of environment before you start living like a blessed person? Are you allowing a difficult situation to sour your attitude? Treat your current workspace, home, or difficult assignment as Potiphar’s house. Complete every task today with maximum excellence, a joyful spirit, and total integrity. Let your work be an undeniable proof to those around you that God is operating through your hands.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that your presence is not limited by my problems or my location. Forgive me for complaining about my current circumstances and missing the blessing of your presence. I recognize today that because you are with me, I am well-able to prosper. Grant me the grace to work with absolute excellence and integrity today. Let my life be a living proof to the people around me that you are real and that you cause all things to work together for my good, in Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
