Focus: 2 Chronicles 31:21 - KJV
21. And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.
2 Chronicles 31:20-21
God cannot be served in a half-half manner, satisfactorily. The service of God is not for people who are not determined to do it wholeheartedly. To serve God we must be ready to do things that will appear odd to every other person for His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are far from ours. Hence, it is not so much about what we will, but what He wills. So, to be in proper service unto God, we need first to know what He wills and ensure we comply strictly with it. The Lord Jesus Christ who was sent to save the world did nothing outside what the father said and what He saw the father do. When He became somewhat overwhelmed, He sought to shift from the template by praying fervently till His sweat had the aroma of blood, just so that the narrative be changed. When the father did not shift from the script, He succumbed to the will of God.
Serving God wholeheartedly has its benefits. God prospers and protects those who serve Him and may elongate the life of the same that he may continue the good job in service, like He did to Hezekiah. Those who fail to do exactly what they are meant to, bring dishonor unto God, like Moses did and forfeited the privilege to enter into the land of promise. It is therefore, a disservice not to go strictly by the dictates of God in the service of the house of God. Today, many are called to serve in different departments but do not even know what the service entails and so do not know what to do not to talk of doing it right. They miss out on the benefits available to those who serve God and expose themselves to the dangers of being in dishonor to God.
Are you in the service of God and appear not to be enjoying special benefits from God for doing it? Or, do you feel distracted from doing what you ought to do in the service of the Lord? It is that the Lord desires your whole heart in His service and distractions are counterproductive. Those things that bring distractions are basically the love of the world more than the service of God. At times, you are too engrossed with your secular job that you don’t give attention to the service as you should. God is not served secondarily as He prefers to be prime in all things.
SOLUTION: The rule in God’s service is to do His own first. Aside this, to be pleasing to Him, we must be precise in our service to ensure strict compliance with the will of the Father. Jesus would not deviate from His will; why should we?
Blessed Redeemer, we look up to you, for without you we cannot achieve anything meaningful. Please guide us to serve you wholeheartedly in Jesus’ name. Every cause of distraction in our service to you, please mute the same in Jesus’ name. In all that we do, please make us acceptable by your mercy in Jesus’ name. And, do please keep us in the full benefit of serving you, in the mighty name of Jesus.
