7. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Matthew 18:24-35
Life is about reciprocity. Those who do give also receive. It is the way the world is structured. Aside that, God is the one to whom everyone connects. He does not want any to perish. Hence, He laid down His own life for each and every one of us to live. When anyone offends Him and realizes his folly, God is good to forgive the same quickly. He expects that those He forgives will also forgive them that offend them. When the forgiven fails to forgive others, then their own forgiveness is also undeserved.
Jonah was a messenger of God. He offended God by refusing to go to where the Lord sent him for the cautioning of Nineveh. Due to his misbehavior, he was thrown into the drink and swallowed by a fish. He realized his folly, sought mercy of the Lord and God delivered him. Meanwhile, when God decided to show mercy on Nineveh upon their repentance, he would not have it. In his mind, Nineveh did not deserve mercy but he did.
There are many worse than Jonah walking the face of the earth today. It is very important that we show mercy to others if we want God, whom we offend every day, to be merciful unto us. Sufficient for each day is the evil therein. It is by the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed. Those who want to remain and not be consumed must choose to be merciful unto others.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for your mercies that I enjoy on a daily basis. I pray that you please make me develop your kind of heart that I may also show mercy to those who offend me so that I may continue to enjoy your mercies all the days of my life, in the name of Jesus Christ. Please, never let your mercy elude me or any member of my family. Let your mercy avail for everyone that anything will touch and affect me, dear Lord, in Jesus’ name. Let your mercy for today take me to heights I never imagined, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
