Stir Up That Gift

Writer: Jide OlaoreJide Olaore

Focus: 2 Timothy 1:6 - KJV

6. Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

Ephesians 4:7-16

Through the laying on of hands by a person that occupies a higher spiritual level (not necessarily by title), the gifts of God that Christ has passed on to His Church is imparted, and not by any oil bath. Nonetheless, when the gift is so imparted, it is for a purpose and not for show. However, like the electric power, unless it is ignited, the gift stays passive and therefore, inactive. But when the gift is stirred, even when it is not deliberately unleashed, it can still be effective for anyone that comes in contact with it. Elisha was so gifted that because he constantly stirred up the gift in him, even when he was dead, his bones were potent enough to raise the dead. Christ was literarily minding His business when the woman with the issue of blood activated the gift in Him by touching the hem of His garment.  Of course, that was made possible not just because He is the Lord, but because He went about doing good, thereby always putting that which He possessed to work actively without allowing the fire to be put out.

The essence of the gift the Lord has imparted into us is for the perfecting of the saints, the work of the ministry and the edifying of the body of Christ until we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. This simply is the mind of God for every believer. We are to attain the height and stature of Christ in all good deeds. It is only then that we can be attested to be Christ-like truly. There are some who do stir up their gifts but they use the same to hurt instead of perfecting of the saints. Before Peter understood the purpose of the gift he had fully, he used it to hurt and destroy Ananias and Sapphira. That is counter-productive and not applaudable, at all. The same is true of Elisha. He first stirred up his gift devouring the little children that called him bald headed. The gift is for the building of the Church. Some still think when some are preached to, convert and begin to be part of the body, when they err, they must be destroyed with the gift. This is never of God. Let us therefore be careful to stir up our gifts for good use, always.

Father, we thank you for your gift in each of us. Thank you for finding us worthy of your use and being part of your body on earth. As we deplore your gift in us for the building of your Church, please make us pillars in the Church and not bulldozers for its pulling down, in the name of Jesus. We look up to you Lord Jesus, as our role model: please let the power of the Holy Spirit in us keep rising from glory to glory that we may attain the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ so as to be truly Christ-like, in Jesus’ name. In all we do, help us that we may end up with you and not in hell despite our gift, in Jesus’ name.

SOLUTION: Do not leave your gift useless; at the same time deplore it to the right use. Do only those things which Christ would do or approve, always.

If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name.
