55. And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none. 56. For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
Luke 17:1-2
The essence of raising false witnesses against anyone is to tell a lie against him, with a view to demonizing him and causing him to be put to hurt or death. It has become customary for the enemy to raise witnesses who did not witness anything, to tell a tale about a nonexistent event and they will go ahead to do so. What the devil did in the days of Christ to discredit Him, he has started again in a renewed fashion, raising “witnesses” to say the doctrines of Christ are alien to culture and therefore should not be accepted. Ironically, Christ knew this day would come and He spoke ahead of it describing the woe that would betide such witnesses, saying it was best that a millstone be tied around their neck and dumped in the sea than be born.
When the rulers of the Jews sought evidence of wrongdoing against Christ and found none, they raised false witnesses like Jezebel did. But this time, their testimonies ran counter one against the other. Truth is, the good that Christ did was clear evidence of His ministry as against the activities of the nay sayers. Knowing the truth but refusing to stand in it, they went about seeking what to hang Him with and thereby went about inventing lies. Such is happening again in the present age where all the Church is faced with in opposition are lies crawling out of the pit of hell, which lies can never be substantiated.
The Lord is telling us to be vigilant. Yes, all false witnesses will meet their waterloo, but it is important we refuse to be misled by the enemy. When Christ was killed, where would the false witnesses have kept their faces knowing that they were not credible in their testimonies? Let those who are being enrolled to speak fables against the Church which is the work of Christ, desist forthwith so as not to fall into crass damnation. For, if their falsities make any of the young lads who have been drawn to Christ to derail, then will their end be so pitiable in the sight of all that know them. The effect of false witnessing is to debar men from the benefit of things God has laid in store for them.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for the belief I have in you and your Spirit with which you have sealed me. Help me never to believe the lies of the devil springing up as false witnessing through the mouths of men moving to discredit your person and your work. Help me at all times to contend for the truth in your word and to always dispel the works of darkness wherever it is found, in the name of Jesus Christ. Please let the truth of your word begin to find greater prominence among men from now on, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
