Focus: Matthew 26:67-69 - KJV
67. Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, 68. Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, who is he that smote thee? 69. Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.
Isaiah 50:6
When we read Biblical account of the things men did to Jesus, people with heart and conscience tend to feel those who did that to Him were wicked and the tendency is for them to also swear, like Peter, that they could never have done so. But present-day events show that they are constantly repeating the same deeds, over and over again. They do call Him Christ, like the original purveyors, but never respect or countenance His authority as such. They are never obedient to His words; neither are they willing to do His will, at all. When they do such, they call Christ a fool and do spit on Him.
When Saul of Tarsus proceeded to Damascus to slap, spit on and kill Christians, little did he know that he was proceeding against the Christ Himself until he heard the Lord accuse him directly of persecuting Him, the Lord. For all Saul cared, he was on the prowl against blasphemers and dissidents, not knowing he was actually in a rage against his Lord. If the Lord had not stopped him in his strides, Saul would have continued to destroy members of the body and be glorying in it like he did regarding the martyr, Stephen. Of course, while his activities continued, he was spitting on Christ, slapping His face and buffeting Him, just like many do today.
The Lord is calling our attention to our actions and activities towards Him. Whenever we say no to God, we are literally spitting in His face, slapping and buffeting Him. That can never be right. When we move against the emissaries of God, we persecute Him. God is asking that we turn a new leaf by ensuring obedience to Christ and not begrudging or moving against anyone said to be emissary of God. None of us is equipped enough to know all things; hence, we can be wrong in our judgment of people’s persons. Let us leave the judgment unto the Lord, and simply follow Him, like He directed.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for volunteering to receive the torture that was due to me because of your love. Please do not let me ever put you through such torture again by my thoughts, words or actions, in Jesus’ name. Every apparatus of the devil, aimed at making me deny you, like Peter and thereby buffet you again, please demolish for my sake, in Jesus’ name. Let your suffering for my sake be sufficient for my ultimate salvation without me having to add pepper to your injury, Lord, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
