12. All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
1 Corinthians 6:9-14
The body of man is so weak that it easily breaks when it comes into contact with lust. When a man is a bit hungry, he seeks to just fill his tommy with something to keep going on. Although if nothing comes up at the moment the man is not likely to die of hunger, the temptation to succumb is made greater when there is an available source of something edible. That was the experience of Esau in the hands of Jacob and his porridge. This also is similar to sexual immorality. A person can go on for years without mating with the opposite sex or at all and survive. But the moment something sensual is presented to his senses by the enemy, he becomes almost uncontrollable to just want to have a go. This was the problem David had with Bathsheba. Now, the Lord Jesus Christ by His example and death on the cross for us has given us a better prescription for the body. Since now the Holy Spirit dwells in our bodies as His Temple, we are to bring our bodies into subjection always, knowing that failure to do so is to make ourselves slave to the lust thereof through the external factors it is exposed to.
In this age of the internet, there are too many suggestive pictures and videos in the air that can easily lure the human mind into submission to sin. This is why the counsel of Brother Paul becomes very critical and important. Although there be no law that prevents us from eating any form of food or surfing the internet, we can create for ourselves laws that puts a bar on those things that we can do and those we cannot just so that we preserve ourselves holy unto the coming of the Lord. By so doing, we refuse to be subjected to the power of any devise that is programmed to turn our minds away from the purity of Christ. Many are falling daily from common sites which ordinarily appear harmless. The reality of the times we live in is that the days are evil. Anyone who must overcome the evil being projected against the soul at this age needs to create for himself his own laws that set the parameters of engagement for anything that has the potential of warring against the soul. Lord, help us to be the masters of our own lives when it comes to lawful things that engender lust in society so that we do not offend you in any manner. Build in us a strong spirit to resist the devil in all his games in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Blessed be the name of our God! Hallelujah!!!
