The Gospel Of Salvation

Focus: 1 Corinthians 15:2 - KJV

2. By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

Hebrews 3:6-14

The Gospel of Christ is the good news that is preached about the works of love that the Lord did in giving His only begotten Son for the ransom of mankind from the wages of sin that dangle over the heads of men like the sword of Damocles. It is that everyone that hears, receives and believes the Gospel as preached, is saved from the second death, which will be the lot of the unsaved, in the end. It is however, possible for some to have believed in vain. In their case, they seem to say they believe but do not appreciate the real depth of the Gospel and therefore take to erratic behavior which are inimical to that expected from true believers. Such do not retain the memory of the Gospel. They keep undulating between the tenets of the Gospel and the doctrines of the fathers of the Old.

Ananias received the Gospel truly and ought to have known that it is a Gospel of reconciliation. But when it was time to reconcile Saul of Tarsus, he hesitated and would ordinarily renege from going to bring the same to salvation, but for God’s insistence. This he did because of the record he had of Saul. Of course, that was the way of Moses and the other fathers before Christ. For Moses, Saul of Tarsus having risen against the Gospel should be considered a villain and treated so. To Peter, the Gentile Cornelius and his household should be viewed as common and unclean even though Peter received the Gospel. Until the Lord told him not to call what He had cleansed common and unclean, he held on to the position of Moses, yet. His Gospel belief would have been in vain if he had not been redirected by the Lord.

The Lord is saying to us that the Gospel is not diluted and should not be diluted in any way if it must retain the power of salvation. If the Old had not been blemished, there would have been no need for the new. The habit of using the activities, ways and pronouncements of the fathers to operate the Gospel is against the spirit of the ministry of Christ. If we are of Christ, let us hold on to Christ. What we have that shows us Christ is the Gospel. Let us therefore uphold our belief and defend it consciously by doing that which it portends and nothing more.
