Focus: John 8:12 - KJV
12. Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Psalms 36:7-9
The Lord Jesus Christ is the Light of the world. The essence of the light is to dispel darkness, as those who walk in darkness make no progress. Therefore, having Christ in one’s life, or following Him, assures illumination and progress, in all that we do. It is important to say that a life without the light is rendered lifeless by darkness. When the earth was said to be in shambles and without form in the beginning, it was as a result of the presence of darkness. The prophets of Baal in the days of Ahab and Jezebel were operating in darkness, and therefore dragged the whole Israel into famine, and lack of progress. When Elijah came to the scene with some glow from the Light (God), the situation turned around, as darkness was dispelled for light to shine. Saul of Tarsus was operating in crass darkness assuming he was representing God. Despite his being a doctor of laws, he lacked understanding of the tenets of the one whom the law was said to represent. When he encountered the Light, his subconscious was opened that he may have clear thoughts and understanding.
How is Jesus the Light? In the beginning, the Spirit of God could not achieve His enterprise of reforming the earth until the Creator announced “let there be light”. The light that was called forth changed the trajectory and subsequently took up the form of man, to dwell among us, so that everyone that receives Him and follows Him, has the opportunity like the Spirit in the beginning, to enjoy the light as darkness is dispersed. This Light shines brightly all around us, but it is only those who follow Him that take the benefit. Truth is, it is darkness that is responsible for ills in life; the Light came in the flesh to put an end to that, if we will allow His efforts to bear in our lives.
We also can overcome darkness and all its effect around us that is stalling progress, by allowing the Light to take full control of our affairs. Often times, when darkness is ravaging, we tend to lose sight of its operations until the effect becomes devastating. The way out, is the light. But we must first eschew the works of darkness by allowing the Light to beam on us. Such actions like lying, cheating, stealing, fornication, adultery, idolatry, covetousness, unforgiveness, embezzlement and the likes which bring about sicknesses, failures and death, must be set aside by allowing the Light to shine and bring in gentleness, love, peace, joy and the likes, by the Spirit. This is achievable by embracing Jesus. If we do it today, we will start to see the tremendous change; since once we switch on the light, darkness fades away.
