The Sent

Focus: John 17:18 - KJV

18. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

John 20:19-23

For Christ to overcome the world, God sent Him by His own Spirit and it is written that He anointed Him with the Holy Ghost and power. His doing good was the sign of overcoming the world as He did not do the worldly but good affairs. The mission of Christ was partly accomplished in His death and resurrection. The full accomplishment is in turning mankind unto God. Hence, He needed witnesses as preachers and teachers to let the whole world know the truth about the salvation that has been wrought so that they may operate in it. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? Hence, the need for Christ to ordain others to preach to the world. And like the father sent Christ, He also sent us breathing on us the Holy Ghost for power to do good just like He did.

The Holy Spirit is the power of God towards doing good. Elisha was a special vessel and a carrier of the power of the Holy Ghost. Even after his death, his bones raised the dead. There was however a Gehazi, who, unlike those that are of Christ, the staff of Elisha did not work in his hands to raise the Shunammite’s dead child because the power of the Holy Spirit to do good was not resident in him. The sons of Sceva saw that it was good to do good. Hence, when they saw a demoniac, they wanted to do like Paul and others were known to do, casting out devils in Jesus’ name. But because they had not the power of the Holy Ghost in them, the name was not potent in their own mouths and they got mesmerized by the demoniac.

There is need for every carrier of the Gospel to realize that there was a way by which all messengers of Christ and by extension, of God are sent forth: it is with the power of the Holy Ghost. Going to operate the Great Commission involves forgiving sins and delivering the oppressed. Without the power to do so, they that try it will be infuriating the prince of the kingdom of darkness. It cannot therefore be right to go forth supposedly in the name of the Lord and suffer defeat in the hands of Satan. To the world, it will be like there is no power in the name of the Lord, not knowing that the one who presents himself as the sent is the one who was never sent as he was not equipped with the power to do good. Let us therefore check properly and be sure of being sent before going forth.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you for the power you released on all those who believe in you to obey your commands. From this very moment dear Lord, let the same power bestowed on Christ that made Him to go about doing good, rest mightily on me for greater works, in the name of Jesus. At my appearing, let every knee of darkness bow and let every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord, in Jesus’ name. Please let everything that I command to come do come and those that I banish to go, do go in Jesus’ name. By this grace, let everyone I pray for receive the forgiveness of their sins, in Jesus’ name.
