Focus: 1 Peter 1:18-19 - KJV
18. Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Hebrews 9:11-14
Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin, is the true claim of scripture which is a valid statement from God. Nonetheless, prior to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ to redeem us properly from sin, Moses had made a set of rules for Israel which included the slaughtering and shedding of the blood of animals as sin offering to take away the guilt of sin committed then by the individual. According to the said rules, in some cases, the kind of animal sacrificed depended on the purchasing ability of the sinner. Hence, while someone may be asked to present a ram without blemish, the less privileged may just bring turtle doves instead. Nevertheless, the assertion of the Lord in the context of His word was to foretell of the coming of the Messiah as the lamb of God to take away the sins of the world by shedding His invaluable blood for the purpose. Therefore, since it is impossible to value the blood of Jesus in pecuniary terms, it is wrong to equate it with the blood of rams and turtle doves as it was done under the Mosaic tradition. The sacred blood is too precious, being that of a true Lamb without blemish and without spot.
The blood of animals is not so valuable to redeem anyone from sin and that was why the Mosaic tradition required that the same be done as a continuing phenomenon; whereas the blood of the true Lamb that took the sin of the world away needed only be shed once and for all. The practice of putting silver and gold together to purchase animals for the sake of shedding its blood for sin is so vain in that a thief who has stolen the most valuable of artefacts is able to purchase the biggest of animals to offer for sin than the sinner who is not ordinarily a thief and therefore lacking in financial capabilities. If God was to judge based on the purse and the purchase of animals, the vilest of sinners would escape while the petty ones would be caught in the web of sin. And since God is just, His standards are not so vile to allow for the big sinner to escape because he is able to “bribe” God better.
We are to bring our minds home to the realization of the eternal efficacy of the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed for our redemption from sin. It is a powerful offering and more valuable than anything we can think of. The understanding of Moses at the time of the sacrifice in Egypt brought about his recommendation of animal sacrifice. Meanwhile, the offering required by the Lord at the time, for the sin of Abraham in doubting that the Lord would truly give him a son that would become a nation and that he would be father of many nations, was only a type of the eventual sacrifice of the Messiah for the sin of Adam. By the shedding of the blood of the lamb per household, God saw the offering of the Messiah which happened from the foundation of the earth, and in advance, gave remission for the sin of Abraham and delivered his offspring from bondage in Egypt just like the blood of the Messiah has delivered mankind from the bondage of the world.
SOLUTION: Be clear in your mind that your sin has been paid for and stop keeping yourself in bondage by assuming you need to be cleared from the sin that had been cleared. Where you have fallen into error, you can still draw from the same powerful blood to get reconciled to God anew. Learn to forgive and free yourself from the guilt of sin. The sacrifice that need be made for the remission of your sin has been done once and for all.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for the blood you shed for the remission of my sin which has brought me into eternal relationship with you as you have purposed from the beginning. I draw from the same grace today to draw nearer unto you; please keep me right in your bosom to the very end, in Jesus’ name. Every effect of sin showing in my life are cancelled today by the reason of the blood of Jesus that was shed, in Jesus’ name. I enter into the blessings of righteousness never to bear the guilt of sin again, by the reason of the blood of Jesus Christ. I plead the blood over myself and my entire household and thereby overcome the accuser of the brethren over my life and family, in Jesus’ name. This day, I begin to live above all principalities and powers to the glory of the name of the Lord, in Jesus’ name.
