Ultimate Salvation

ree

Focus: 1 Peter 1:9 - KJV

9. Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Romans 6:15-23

Eternal laws make it explicit that the souls that sin shall die. Hence, the essence of the works done by Christ to ransom man from sin is that as many as believe in Him may not have their souls in death but in life everlasting. It becomes a waste however for a person to assert faith in Christ, gain the whole world and then forfeit his soul to death in the end. Invariably, the end target of every believer should be to gain his soul in eternity by having it saved, ultimately. This may not be the testimony of many who, though introduced to faith in Christ, play away their salvation and get their souls enmeshed in darkness. Such will have huge regrets in the end.

The testimony of Paul about Demas was that he forsook him for loving the current world more than the faith. Ask Demas himself: he may have all manner of reasons to have jettisoned Paul in ministry, which excuses may not be excusable before the ultimate judge of all. Gehazi may have been drawn to Elisha by faith as a son of the prophet. But rather than focus on the faith that drew him to the vocation, he was more preoccupied with the gains he could make above and beyond his master and eventually fell off the faith.  These two started well but appear not to have made it ultimately, thereby making their initial faith some form of wasted investment.

Every believer should know that by coming into faith, he is a servant of the Lord. But when he bends over to obey the voice of the enemy, he makes himself the servant of the enemy, instead. With God, it is the end that matters. If in the end, the believer becomes the servant of the devil, he forfeits his soul from salvation. The Lord is therefore asking that we focus on the state of our souls in the end by ensuring we yield to His voice always and never the voice of the stranger.
