Focus: Proverbs 10:13-14 - KJV
13. In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding. 14. Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
1 Samuel 25:2-35
The use we put our mouths to determines at times the direction of our lives. For those who understand the functionalities of life, only wisdom proceeds out of their mouths. Since God wants us to dwell in love, a person with understanding will only say things that would not cause strife or rancor with the listener. That is wisdom more so, when the listener may appear to have greater strength or capacity to deal dastardly with the speaker. There was a Bible character called Nabal. He was the owner of his goods. David had asked him for something to take care of his troop. Nabal knew David was a warrior and he was not alone. Meanwhile, although he had servants, Nabal knew not the art of war. When he got David’s message, understanding would make him realize that David could run him over and take his belongings and if he was not doing that, he should be maintained as friend. Rather than send friendly words, he sent harsh words to David that led to provocation. When the wife heard, because she had understanding, she approached David with sweet words and calamity was averted from her home. So, in this case, the man Nabal was foolish with his mouth while the wife was wise with hers.
Many times, we run our mouths and it leads to great trouble. If for any reason, you had used your mouth in a regrettable way, it is never too late to make amends. It is just about saying “I don’t know what got over me, I am sorry”, and things can be restored to their old ways. It is not good however that we don’t put a control valve on our lips to forestall wrong statements. Avoid trouble. Live peaceably with all men. Put the mouth in check not to go about hurting everyone.
SOLUTION: Anything that may hurt the listener or a third party when it is revealed to him, abstain from saying. Let only sweet and loving words procced out of your mouth always.
By the power in the name of Jesus, we will no longer misuse our lips in speech. Only sweet words shall proceed from our mouths henceforth in Jesus’ name. Whatever we have said or may say will not come back to haunt us in Jesus’ name. Watch what you say.
