Focus: Proverbs 12:22 - KJV
22. Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
Revelation 22:12-15
Lying is an art found so convenient by many. To lie is to make an intentionally false statement. People lie for many reasons: first, due to the fear of retribution some lie to get themselves out of the situation; others would lie to create an impression that is untrue about something or someone else. The worst is that most often than not, people lie to gain an advantage over someone or put the same in a dire situation. Of all of these reasons, there is none that is approvable of God. Someone once said that there are lies that are necessary to wriggle out of a situation like that which Abraham and subsequently Isaac made about their respective wives being the sister. But there is no lie that is excusable. The standard of God is that no liar will make it to the heavenly kingdom. A lie by a believer is a denial of God: whether it be for fear or whatever, it is suggestive of the nonexistence of God. No wonder, when the lips lie, it becomes abominable to God.
The lie told by one can lead another to death, bondage or misfortune. For example, it was the lie told by the witnesses Jezebel prepared that sent Naboth to his early grave; and the lie of Rachael could have brought calamity to Jacob had God not intervened. The liar himself is not free from upheaval. It was Gehazi’s lie that bought him leprosy and when Ananias and Sapphira lied, they earned early graves. On the converse side, those who tell the truth and stand by their words, are God’s delight. When the liar appears to be devastating them, they may suffer pain for a while, but the Lord backs them up to give them victory at last. Consider for an instance, the life of Micaiah as against that of the lying prophets. Same with Jeremiah. No matter how long and fast a lie travels, the truth catches up with it in a jiffy, since God is truthful and backs the one who speaks the truth.
The Lord wants us to know that there is nothing we stand to gain by telling a lie. They that lie may appear to be gaining prominence in the eyes of men but the same is often short-lived. Even if they appear to get away with it, they are not likely to escape the judgment of God. Imagine a boss who because he is scared that the subordinate would expose his dark side to the overall boss, keeps telling lies about the subordinate, back-to-back to the detriment and pain of the latter for so long. Assume the said boss escapes unpunished on earth, will God be served not to bring justice in the matter in the end? It does not appear so. David’s shenanigans brought Uriah to sudden death. Even though David was the beloved of God, he was made to answer for it and it is recorded boldly against him as his main error. Please do not become an abomination to God by being a liar.
SOLUTION: Never tell a lie. If you speak the truth, you may not have friends but no one will kill you for being truthful. Even if the world kills your body, your soul will be preserved for bliss in eternity. Nonetheless, no one is permitted to kill you unless God permits it. Never tell a lie.
Please pray:
· Give thanks to God who is true and has given us the Truth to guide us to Himself
· Ask God to please forgive all lies you have told that have made your lips and yourself abominable to Him
· Pray that the Lord will give you the courage to speak the truth always no matter the circumstance
· Pray that you may only reap the fruit of the truth and never the lie in your life and beyond
· Ask God for your daily bread for today
