Abounding In Grace

Focus: 2 Corinthians 8:7 - KJV

7. Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.

2 Corinthians 8:1-9

There is a special grace that flows from the Lord Jesus Christ: even though He be equal to the father, He became poor for our sakes that we may be rich; not necessarily in gold and silver, but in the grace of benevolence which is to wit, being givers in our lack and laxities. The benevolent is not necessarily the one who gives out of abundance and surplus but the one who, despite his needs, give to others that they may be well. That is what Christ did: He gave His totality that we may be freed from darkness and drawn into God’s marvelous light. Such grace is what the believer needs to possess.

David was extremely thirsty and he sought to drink not just ordinary water but a significant one from the well of Jacob. Three of his men went to fetch the water for him risking their lives in the process. When they brought him the water, despite the harshness of his thirst, he poured it out unto God. That is some special grace. Paul acknowledged a similar grace on the Macedonian Christians that despite their poverty, they were willing to go all out in supporting and sustaining the Gospel, not minding their own state. Though deeply impoverished, they abounded to riches in liberality - they found to give despite it.

The Lord is asking us to emulate those who walked by faith and had gone before us. In this day and age, it is becoming extremely difficult to find believers who are willing to make sacrifice for the sake of the kingdom with a view to winning more souls for God through their benevolence. The Lord is reiterating the fact that the liberal soul shall definitely be made fat and that the way up is down and except a corn of wheat falls down and dies, it abides alone. Let it be known that our liberality will never go unrewarded or be in vain. Return to the art of benevolence from today and see the Lord in action in your own life also.

Please pray:

Thank you, Lord for the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ which you have released to us. Please let the same grace continue to radiate in our hearts that we may daily be more like Jesus Christ, in Jesus’ name. Help us to be more of you and less of ourselves, dear Lord, in Jesus’ name. Let your grace lead us to do more good to others and even support those you have appointed to lead the faith, dear Lord in Jesus’ name. From this day, help me to think of your kingdom first in all that I do, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
