Apple Of God’s Eye

Focus: Psalms 17:6-8 - KJV

6. I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech. 7. Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them. 8. Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

Deuteronomy 32:9-14

The pupil in a person’s eye is so delicate and well-guarded by the owner from harm, for when it is tampered with or damaged, vision is affected. Incidentally, to show how it is viewed, the pupil is called the apple of the eye. When we therefore speak about the apple of God’s eye, we refer idiomatically, to something so important to Him that He guards and protects specially. Those that qualify to be called the apple of God’s eye are people who carry the covenant of God whom He is compelled to protect for the fulfilment of the covenant. For instance, the Lord treated Jacob as the apple of His eye as he was the possessor of the blessings and covenant which the Lord had with Abraham. For this, God ensured the protection of Jacob to ensure the covenant stood firm.

Jacob was said to be a swindler, God changed his name to Israel to put that aside. Even though there was a promise of death hanging over his head from Esau his brother, God ensured he got a kiss instead. Even his uncle Laban was sworn to devastate him while he escaped from Laban, but God appeared to him with a warning not to tamper with Jacob. Until he passed on, Jacob did not lack protection or provision from God. This is God’s way of assuring everyone that comes into a covenant with Him of protection from hills and making our enemies to be at peace with us. And if there be any rising against us, the same rises against the apple of God’s eye and is bound to be quelled with the hand of God as the apple of God’s eye is protected by His wings.

Beloved, rest assured that the Lord will neither leave nor forsake us no matter what. We however need to bear the covenant of God for this assurance to be formalized. No devil can mess with the apple of God’s eye, hence if you be one, there is nothing for you to fear. No matter the stature of the opposition, none is as mighty as our God, the apple of whose eye we are. That alone ought to rekindle faith and hope in us to forge ahead without fear. We must however, remember constantly that God’s eye will not behold iniquity. This translates to God Himself removing the spec bringing iniquity near His eyes for Him to see. So, if we don’t want the Lord to remove us from His eye, we must flee from iniquity.

SOLUTION: Come into a covenant relationship with the Lord through Jesus Christ and avoid iniquity forthwith, like a plague. Protection is then guaranteed.

Pray thus: Father, I hide myself under your wings as the apple of your eye, please shield me from the attack of the enemy in the mighty name of Jesus. Let not the enemy come near me in any way in Jesus’ name. Like you did for Jacob, please make my enemies to be at peace with me in Jesus’ name. Let your presence be my shield ever in Jesus’ name.
