Avoid Philosophy And The Doctrines Of Men

Focus: Colossians 2:8 - KJV

8. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Matthew 15:3-9

The word of God is constant. It does not change with circumstances or situation. That is why it is said to be settled forever in heaven. When anyone comes with philosophies and doctrines of men, we are enjoined to avoid such. But when is a position mere philosophy and doctrine of men? When it does not align fully with that which the Lord states in His word. Incidentally, unless we are fully observant, that which is presented may appear like the ruth whereas it is mere philosophy. All that the devil said to Christ at His temptation appeared true but was a bait away from the intent of the word and aimed at destruction. The Pharisees and Sadducees being custodians of the law of Moses were the teachers thereof. No one would have known they were teaching philosophies and the doctrines of men away from the truth of the word of God until Christ exposed part of their shenanigans. But a critical question bothers the heart: if the teachers of the law taught philosophy, what exactly is the value of the laws of Moses? Can they also be considered the doctrines of men? The Bible says if the old had no blemish there would have been no need for the new. To avoid the doctrines of men therefore, there is need to be wary of the value of the laws of Moses (not the Ten Commandments of God). Such for as long as they do not conform with the heart of God in full content, are spoilers.

Beloved, the word of God is food to our soul. No one lives well on poison. It is therefore important we are careful about the kind of word we feed on. Many of those who reel out these words may themselves be ignorant of the value of such words. But that does not cure the poisonous effect thereof. It is that you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. The essence of the word is to set free from the shackles of hell. If that which we hear is however untrue, it possesses no power to set free. Only the truth sets free.

SOLUTION: Test every spirit and hold on to that which is true. The only one heaven recommends that we hear and obey is the Christ. Whatever you receive which is not in consonance with the direct teaching of Christ, please stay away from. It is deceit from the pit of hell.

Father, we appreciate your Word that you sent to liberate us from the lie of the devil. Please accept our thanks in Jesus’ name. From today, help us to decipher the truth in every word that comes our ways so that we can hold thereunto in Jesus’ name. The grace to overcome the devil always when he comes with his lies, kindly release unto us in Jesus’ name.
