Focus: Ephesians 5:18 - KJV
18. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Proverbs 20:1
In the life of every man, there is a thirst per time, that seeks a filling. When the thirst arises, some quench theirs by finding water to drink. For example, the Samaritan woman by the well of Jacob and Hagar with Ishmael her son, needed to quench their thirst with water. Some others, perhaps due to the merriment of their hearts, seek to do theirs with the wine. This is somewhat dangerous in that wine is a tempter and when we are lured to use it for our thirst, it is most deceptive. Getting filled with it may end up in dare consequences and possible calamities. Some had taken wine and said things they would never have while sober. Others had committed terrible sins because of ingesting wine. For instance, God had decided to wipe away the curse operating over the earth regarding mankind after He smelled honor from Noah’s sacrifice. The joy of this overwhelmed Noah that he got filled with wine and the result was him reintroducing curses upon the earth through one of his sons. Wine did not do Lot well either, for by it, he had children by his own daughters. Nabal misbehaved to David by getting filled with wine due to a harvest.
There is however another that fills and engenders great positive results. That is the Holy Spirit. Anyone that is filled with water will end up urinating much and possibly often; those filled with wine would misbehave but those filled with the Spirit are wonderful people with great exploits to point to. The chief among them recorded in the Bible is the Lord Jesus Christ: He went about doing good, healing the sick, delivering the oppressed and doing many unprecedented miracles. There was also Moses, Joshua, Samuel, Elijah, Elisha, Samson, John the Baptist and so on. They all, in their different generations got a filling of the Spirit (when He came upon them), and they did extraordinary things. John was filled from birth and he had connection with heaven that he had the premonition of the person of the messiah before any other. The beauty of the filling of the Holy Spirit is the ability to do the same things that Christ did while in the flesh, and greater works also.
The Lord is presenting to us a choice today: we could choose to be filled with water which although healthy, prompts us to use the washroom some more times than usual; or we could decide to be filled with wine, the end of which is with repercussions, or we get filled with the Holy Spirit and become earthly champions and heaven’s delight. Getting filled with the Spirit is a deliberate matter. All we need is, if we are born again, ask the Lord to fill and indwell us that we may use His person to fulfill purpose on earth.
SOLUTION: Never succumb to wine as it is tantamount to succumbing to the deceit of the enemy like Noah and Lot did. Rather, seek the in filling of the Holy Spirit by waiting on the Lord for it, while you pray.
Please pray: Father, I thank you for taking my eyes and mind away from wine. Please create no thirst-vacuum in me; rather fill me with your Spirit and power right now in Jesus’ name. Let me never be drawn away from this filling ever, in Jesus’ name.
