Be Merciful Too

Focus: Luke 10:37 - KJV

37. And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

Luke 10:30-37

The mind of God for men is that we devote our lives to love, indiscriminately. For all He cares, we ought to show love to everyone whether or not they belong to our family, community, nation, tribe, gender, religion, creed or what have you. To drive this point home, He gave us the parable of the Good Samaritan. There was no affinity between the Jews and the Samaritans back in the day. A person was battered by some evil men and left for dead. People passed and left him in his state without caring for him. Some of those that passed were of his tribe and some were religious leaders. They did nothing to help him. Then came a foreigner, a stranger to the afflicted, who took him up, fended for him and pledged his resources towards his upkeep; not because they were related or kins, but for love. This is what the Lord demands of us, hence He said we should do likewise.

The Lord understands how to love because He is Love! Imagine a person sent His Son to die for the sin of mankind. The Son Himself, who, like the father, is an embodiment of love, came and submitted Himself to die like the father willed. When He was to be arrested and taken through the dying process, one of the servants of the High Priest got his ear severed by another person. Those who do not know love would have said it was good for that servant. But Christ admonished the slayer and replaced the man’s ear. It is certain that in all that the other servants did, this one would have been so perplexed when he received love instead of uncanny vengeance. This is the example that the Lord has left us with and He wants us to go and do likewise. It cannot therefore be right, that we occupy offices where no other people can be employed except those from our clans; or we use resources under our care to favor those in our click and leave out others who ordinarily should be beneficiaries, for good purposes.

The Lord is saying to us today that we should emulate Christ by following His example and obeying His directive particularly about being nice to our “neighbors”, noting that the neighbor can be a complete stranger whom we have never met before or have any affinity to. In other words, God wants us to be merciful towards them that are in need and we have capacity to assist. It does not matter if he be of the same faith with us or not. All we are called to do is to take care of our fellow men as God’s agents in the matter. Let people give praises to God by the mercies you show to them. Don’t leave the bruised without succor when you can help him.

SOLUTION: The world will become a better place if we all can do our bit in showing mercy to them that are undergoing torment through affliction. Bring them back unto their feet and see what God would do for you or people connected to you therefor.

Please pray:

·      Give thanks to God who loves you and died for you that you may live and have abundant life

·      Ask God to please reveal Himself the more to you in love, so that as you observe Him, you may be more like Him

·      Pray God to show mercy on everyone in pain of any kind at this time, so that they may get reliefs from places and people they never expected

·      Ask God to shower His blessings on you so that in your showing love to others, you will not be hurt thereby

·      Ask God for your daily bread today

If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name
