Be Pleasing To God

Focus: John 8:29 - KJV

29. And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

John 6:28-40

The Lord Jesus Christ got an affirmation from the father before witnesses that the father is well pleased with Him. Christ Himself confirms to other witnesses that the father is pleased with Him. But why is the father so pleased with Him and He is so sure to say so? It is for the simple reason that He ensured He did nothing outside what the father commanded Him. We notice that almost every time after an exploit, Christ went into seclusion, either alone or at times with some of His inner circle. At one of such times, the instruction of the father was for Him to submit Himself to death. It was a very heavy command. Christ had to return to seclusion taking with Himself other people to pray with Him, per adventure the father would yield and permit Him to continue by letting the cup of death pass over. Lo and behold, His prayer champions did not understand the gravity of the command at stake and rather than pray, they slept. Since the father did not change His command, Jesus succumbed to His will. It is therefore, never out of place for the father to be well pleased in Him.

We also are emissaries of the Lord: just like He sent Christ, Jesus also has sent us. Problem however is, why is it that it does not appear that the Lord is so well pleased in us? The difference is in obedience to the Lord’s commands. The first place is that we do not take time to get His command before we jump into our actions. When that happens, we blame the Lord for the repercussion of our actions or inactions. Like Christ, the Lord is instructing us today to always find time to meet with Him in a quiet place (not necessarily a secret room), where we can seek His face for instruction from time to time. And then, like Mary said to them at the marriage in Cana of Galilee, whatever we get from Him as command in our seclusion, we must ensure we comply with it. Christ obeyed all commands and even the command to die. In the end, He has a name above every other name in all generations and in all realms. There is always a reward for obedience unto the Lord. Once we obey, the Lord becomes pleased in us and releases His blessings on us. In this new month, let us begin to practice the ways of Christ and become pleasing unto our God.
