Be Quiet

ree

Focus: Isaiah 30:15b - KJV

In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.

Proverbs 10:19

From the multitude of words, there wanteth not sin and he who refrains his lips is wise, is the counsel of the wise man. Sin is a reproach to many. When the doors of the mouth are kept in a way that it does not leak secrets and divulge lies, there is no way the person will be quoted whether rightly or out of context. It is from the words of man that he is entrapped. Most offences emanate from the things we say. When we offend others through our words, the enemy gets them to want to avenge themselves on us. From this, sins are multiplied. No wonder the word of God says surely offences shall come but woe unto him through whom the offences come. When we be quiet, when there are things to judge, it will not affect us and our confidence thereby gets us strengthened.

Outside preaching repentance to the people, John the Baptist was not known for many words. However, his temperament regarding the need for repentance got him out of the good realm into being brash in words towards the king and his new found love who was his brother’s wife. Rather than just preach and leave the sharper than two-edged sword words to do what it does best, he said hurting things to and about the couple. When eventually he got imprisoned, he used the same words to disparage the Christ asking whether He was the Messiah or another should be expected, despite all the revelation he had of Him. All of this ended up being his undoing.

The Lord is saying we should avoid saying unnecessary things so that we may be strengthened the more against the adversary. Even if what is said is true, the devil has a way of twisting things to mess with the life of the righteous. It is therefore better to be economical with words so that there is nothing the enemy can quote us as saying. It is wrong to assume there are trusted friends to whom we can entrust our words. They may be the direct instruments in the hands of the enemy to ensnare us. Build confidence from silence and be strengthened. The accuser of the brethren is not resting in looking for those to destroy. Do not give him the pleasure.

Please share with others. God bless you.
