11. Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
Colossians 1:6-10
The essence of the coming of Christ is that men may turn from wickedness unto righteousness. Hence, He made us to know that whilst He is in the world, He is the light of the world. And, because He has sent us like the father sent Him, He made it clear that now, we are the light of the world. The necessity of light is to disperse darkness. That is the essence of the believer in the world today. For the believer to shine as light, he must bring forth the fruits of righteousness. Wickedness is of darkness and since there is no way darkness can repel darkness, the fruits of righteousness are key to the believer, else he is not effective. Meanwhile, the fruits of righteousness are sown in peace of them that make peace.
The Church in her beginning, witnessed an incident that drove fear in the believers. The people had agreed to live in communism by submitting all of their properties into a pool to be managed by the Apostles with Peter being the head. So, everyone sold what he had and put the proceeds in the pool. But then there was a couple who did sell but discounted the proceeds and only presented a part as the value of sales, thereby asserting wickedness on the others that had been faithful. This wickedness, like that of Achan in the time of Joshua, was a dent on the light in the camp of the Church. Peter was vehement about it and he vented his vehemence on the couple with devastating consequences that put fear in the minds of others.
God is saying to us today that as believers, it is dangerous to be lukewarm. It is either we are hot and remain so in righteousness or we are cold and remain so distinctly. Lukewarmness nauseates the Lord and may bring about sad consequences. It is therefore, important that we embrace and bear fruits of righteousness even as we continue to seek deeper knowledge of our God, and do His will at all times.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for your love and kindness. Thank you for the grace to be the light to the world. Let your light in me never be deemed or extinguished, dear Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ. Please help me to increase in bringing forth fruits of righteousness and never that of wickedness, in Jesus’ name. Let the fruits bring to me blessings in life to the glory of your name, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
