3. Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. 4. Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.
Proverbs 23:6-8
How did evil become prevalent in the world? The enemy, who from the beginning was adjudged evil and banished from the presence of the righteous God, never thought he should be the only one to go down. Hence, he recruited with himself, a third of the population of angels to rebel against the Lord. When God made man and gave him dominion over the earth, which was at the time the abode of the evil one, with a view to suppressing evil and allowing righteousness to reign, the evil one found a ploy and hatched it to recruit the man to his side. As a result, every man that turns from righteousness unto sin is condemned, like the devil, to death, for the wages of sin is death. The enemy is never relenting in increasing the population of those he is recruiting unto the death side. He majors in deceiving one and getting him to deceive others to believe the lie that railroads into evil and therefore, death. Incidentally, many are now so accustomed to evil that they no longer care about righteousness, neither do they give a damn about God, their creator.
One of the ways to get one to the side of the evil one is through the instrumentality of the mouth. When a man is able to keep his mouth, he will literally overcome evil for lies are said with the mouth and ensnaring is through the mouth. Hence, it is key to seek the face of God to help keep a watch over our mouths. Aside from that, which helps us from becoming the agent of the devil to ensnare others, we ought also to keep our hearts with all diligence so as to bar the lies of the evil one from penetrating and polluting it. For as faith comes by hearing unto righteousness, so does fear unto evil. And as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Hence, when the heart is allowed to dwell on evil, it is evil that will manifest mainly from the actions of the bearer of the said heart.
Friends, we all are still work in progress as we are yet to attain the fullness of the stature of Christ. Hence, we need not be hard on ourselves for the ways in which the enemy had succeeded in the past to draw us towards evil. Nonetheless, now that we know his antics, we have no excuse in our deeds, if they dovetail into evil. By staying around evildoers aside from for the purposes of evangelism, we open ourselves to hear evil lies that may work on our hearts, and when care is not taken, our mouths will engage in the same to become agents of the evil one. God forbid. We can be so determined in our walk with God to shun all evil doers and the works of evil. We can properly achieve this by the help of God which is why we ought to be fervent in prayers, at all time, as the evil one has greater experience about man and the earth than anyone of us alive today. Please never abdicate prayer in your daily lives and activities.
SOLUTION: Let not your mouth be an instrument in the hands of the evil one; neither yield your hearts to his counsel. Pray without ceasing that the Lord may separate you from evil, and ensure you abstain from evil associations.
Please pray: Father, I prefer righteousness to evil. Help me to eschew evil in all its ramification and appearance, in Jesus’ name. Let your power sustain me to keep my mouth and my heart pure that I may never yield to the dictates of the evil one in Jesus’ name.
