Focus: Proverbs 1:23 - KJV
23. Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
Acts 2:14-21
The Lord had promised through Prophet Joel that in those days, He would pour out His Spirit upon all flesh. This of course, is meant to be a special endowment that would make the recipients do extraordinary things. When it was almost time for the outpouring as promised, the Lord Jesus Christ made it abundantly clear that when the Spirit comes, He would teach us all things and bring to our remembrance, those things we are taught of Christ Himself. Something is however seeming funny: the mind of God is to pour the Spirit unto all flesh; however, the moment the outpouring was first experienced, not all flesh got the experience but only those in the upper room on that day. What is responsible?
Everything about God is hinged on reciprocity. God commends His love towards us, He expects us to reciprocate the same. For the outpouring of the Spirit, it is only those who respond positively to His reproof that become qualified for His Spirit. The Spirit of the Lord is holy and will therefore not come upon any filthy vessel. Hence, when God promised to pour His Spirit upon all flesh, He had given guidance through the wise man that such outpouring will be predicated upon our acting at His reproof, to forsake our old ways which are evil. The Lord Jesus Christ therefore, came to show us the way to follow unto righteousness, that makes us ready to receive the Spirit.
Beloved, even though the Lord has released the Holy Spirit to come upon all flesh like He foretold, we can only be partakers of the wonder if we will yield to the Lord’s correction by following the way the truth and the life to where the Holy Spirit can find us to indwell. When we let God have His way in our lives, the exploits performed by the Apostles of old will become child’s play when compared to what the Spirit would do through us. The non-manifestation of the wonders of the Holy Spirit in us is attributable to our refusal to heed the reproof of the Lord in our lives, and daily activities. Imagine for instance, a person bursting out in tongues and doing “wonders” after downing so much alcohol or spending some time with a harlot in a brothel or wherever? How would people perceive the spirit in him? That is why it is difficult for the outpoured Spirit to come upon or work through many.
SOLUTION: Purge yourself today of the things the Lord is reproofing you of and receive the Holy Spirit. It is that Spirit that will walk you into the fulfilment of destiny, not your human brain or ability.
Please pray: Father, please give me the heart to be obedient to your reproof at all times, in Jesus’ name. As I forsake the devil and his handiworks today, please create in me adequate room for the Holy Spirit to dwell in, in the name of Jesus Christ. Holy Spirit divine, I am ready and available for you: please come into my heart to dwell, never to depart again, in Jesus’ name.
