Clear Direction

Focus: Isaiah 30:21 - KJV

21. And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

Acts 10:17-21

Our God is not an author of confusion. When He directs, He guides by His Spirit also to the accomplishment of His aim. It is only when the one concerned complies with the voice of direction that he enters into God’s provision. The Lord is never tired of guiding the saints. He knows where the boobies are set and therefore ensures that His beloved does not fall into any of them. This He does by making him to hear a voice of direction from time to time. A refusal to obey the voice in details makes the believer to use his own initiative which may be a departure from God’s will.

Peter was a Jew who knew the traditions quite well. On the other hand, he was Christ’s lieutenant and knew to an extent what the Lord wanted. But in his heart, Peter was confused. He believed Moses to the extent that some things are common and unclean. Meanwhile, Christ came not to condemn anyone but to bring them to repentance. Peter’s confusion stemmed from the inability to marry the two. Then he heard the voice that corrected him. It is not that there are no unclean things, but what God has cleansed cannot be said to be unclean. He then heard the voice to follow Cornelius’ messengers without disputation. Then he walked in God’s will which he never knew or believed before.

The Lord is encouraging us the more in this dispensation to listen to the voice of the Spirit so as not to miss our way to the kingdom. For as many as will obey the voice of the Spirit move closer to becoming like Christ, since as many as are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Let us therefore be more attentive to the voice of the Spirit and stop being careless and brash in our pursuits. Those who hasting to do things without inclining their ears to the Spirit may not take the benefit of the leading that takes us to life.
