Focus: John 6:57 - KJV
57. As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
John 6:47-58
The Lord has a way of sustaining His own in life. No matter how difficult life and living may be, God comes through with a solution for His own, that makes them come through. When Israel was drawn out of Egypt and got into the wilderness, of course there was no food available to keep their multitude alive and well for the journey. God took care of that by providing for them a special meal that they ate until they got to the promised land, where they had access to food. Though given from God in heaven, manna was a physical food that took care of the body’s life. However, eating manna is not enough to guarantee eternal life. Hence, like He gave manna for physical strength, God has given us another food from heaven which feeds our spirit and keeps our souls alive. This food is the bread of life which is Christ Jesus.
As the Israelites ate manna in the wilderness to sustain them in their journey, everyone that must be sustained in this journey of life must be alive spiritually and therefore must consume the bread of life. No, not cannibalistically, but figuratively. Christ is the bread of life: for us to excel in life we must imbibe Him wholly. When we do, the life that we live will be by Him and in Him. He told us that He was the same with the father, thereby depicting that as He is in the father, so is the father in Him. Hence, like the father is in Him and He lives by the father, we are required to carry Him also in us so that we may live by Him. Point is, anyone who refuses to consume Him cannot live by Him and therefore, lacks life. This is a great mystery and to make it easy for us, He left us with the Holy Communion as a means of eating Him and thereby remembering that having consumed Him, we live by Him.
Friend, if we carry Christ in our inside then have we the hope of glory. For as Christ dwells in us, we will abstain from things He would not approve and rather live according to His will. Whenever we lose consciousness of having consumed Him, the tendency is for us to misbehave. However, for as long as we carry Him in us, we remain on the right path. The difference between eating the Christ and eating manna is that those who took the manna did die, but those who consume the Christ shall never die. A great mystery. Not dying after eating Christ has been interpreted largely to mean the second death. But is it? Manna eaters are not necessarily susceptible to the second death also. Yet, Christ drew a distinction between eating manna and His own flesh.
SOLUTION: What the Lord expects of us is that Christ dwells in us and we live our lives by Him. We are to please partake of the Holy Communion from time to time to remind us of Christ’s great deeds for us and thereby reinvigorate ourselves with conviction that He is in us.
Please pray: Father, thank you for allowing Christ to indwell me. By this fact, help me to live my life by you forever more, in Jesus’ name. Better than those who ate manna and died, please as I have ingested and consumed your being in me, let me never taste death dear Lord, in Jesus’ name. As your body never saw decay, let not mine also, in Jesus’ mighty name.
