Focus: Luke 9:62 - KJV
62. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Philippians 3:12-14
The knowledge of God is important to inheriting the Kingdom. Many call the name of the Lord without knowing Him. For instance, they claim to know God but ascribe wickedness to Him who is Love. How do we explain Job’s friends who claimed they knew God and ascribed all the deeds of the devil, over Job’s fortune, to God. The reason Jesus was brought into the world is that we might be made to know the only true God and Jesus Himself being the Christ that God sent (John 17:3). This presupposes that prior to His coming, we did not know God as we ought. Now, when a person comes to the position of finding the truth of the person of God but, perhaps because of what people would say, turns away from the truth, he is said to have laid hand on the plough and look back. It is akin to a dog returning to his vomit and therefore, filthy and unfit for the holy place.
John the Baptist received a direct message from God regarding the one who would show the way. He was to observe the one upon whom the Spirit would descend as a dove and know that He is the one. He met the Lord, acknowledged Him and affirmed that He is the one whose shoes he could not lace. Unfortunately, a circumstance happened in the life of John that made him to query the authenticity of the message of Christ. He had laid his hand upon the plough and looked back. The response of Christ to that was instructive: the least in the kingdom was greater than John. Since the kingdom was revealed and accessible only after the death and resurrection of Christ, John became a casualty of the Kingdom as he had no opportunity of entering in. What a tragic loss!!!
God is warning each of us today not to allow the challenges of life to pitch us against our Lord. The effect of that can be highly devastating. It is looking back away from God and calling Him a liar. God has no joy in those who lack faith not to talk of those who tasted it and turn around. Rejecting the truth about the person of God as presented through the eyes of the Gospel can be really calamitous. The devil is pleased to destroy with ease all those in such boat. The destruction of John is something that serves as a great example of how never to look back. Let us never, for any reason turn against God, particularly after finding out some truth about Him. It can be truly devastating. Let us remain faithful to the one who has called us out of darkness which is depicted in the lies we have been schooled in about God, and stay perpetually in the light which is the truth He has drawn us into.
SOLUTION: Never turn your back on God. He is too great to be maltreated by mere us. It is important to stay committed to the truth and defend it at all time.
Please pray: Father, we cannot do anything without you; please help us to know more of you and stick with the truth that we have in you, in Jesus’ name. Every way by which we have appeared to look back, kindly forgive and please draw us to yourself by your Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name.
