6. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
Colossians 2:6-8
Beloved, welcome to the sixth month in the year: the month that splits the year into two. May the Lord make it a month of recovery of lost opportunities for us all, in Jesus’ name. In coming to terms with what is true or not, words are very important. It is with words that men are convinced either to accept Christ or be drawn far away from Him albeit in pretense of doing His bidding. The words of God are backed up with power since they do carry His Spirit. They convince and convict the hearer and draw him to the Author. It is however possible and truly prevalent that some come pretending to be of God but are filled with vain words that are literally empty. Many are deceived by such words, sadly.
Paul was speaking the word of power to a ruler (the deputy) with a view to convincing and convicting him of sin so that he may have a rethink and receive the truth about God. But there was one (Elymas the sorcerer) who, withstood him with vain words with a view to turning the deputy away from the faith. If Paul did not stand up to him, he may have succeeded in moving the heart of the deputy away from his God. Many other subtle men like Elymas have found their ways to the pulpit. They talk philosophy as against the word of the kingdom. At the end, the people are lured to sleep with seeming oratory and crass fables which they are unable to unravel. Indeed, rhymes and rhythms are now used to draw men away from the truth. Yet, it is the knowledge of the truth that sets free.
In this new month, the Lord is asking us to be attentive and reject fables. Those who must climb the rostrum to dish the bread must ensure it is only the bread of life they serve; and those who must take and eat the bread are to ascertain they are not ingesting poison. For every word that proceeds from the mouth of God gives life. Anything contrary is a pointer to death. Israel ate manna and thought it gave life. But Christ showed that they that ate it died. However, there is a bread that gives life better than manner. That bread is the truth. Let us therefore be careful to consume the truth and abstain from vain words.
Please pray:
Thank you, father for the availability of your word to us ward. Let the truth in your word locate and be sufficient unto us, in Jesus’ name. Help us to always live in obedience to your truth; expose all those who speak lies in your name so that none may be deceived anymore by them, in Jesus’ name. Let your word that gives life always locate us for life, and keep us bouncing in you, in the mighty name of Jesus. And let your Spirit be poured out the more upon every believer to speak the truth of your word in Jesus’ name; and to identify and reject vain words always, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
