Don’t Derail Others

Focus: 1 Corinthians 6:12 - KJV

12. All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

1 Corinthians 10:23-33

The depth of understanding the things of God differs from one person to the other. The understanding that Peter got when he saw a vision of all manner of animals brought to him to kill and eat the things that he thought were common and unclean, was very different from that of the rest of the bunch, who still believed all things “common and unclean” were abominable. So, if after his vision and new understanding, Peter had gone into the midst of other Christians, sat at table and eat any such animal, he would have been insensitive in that many would have been led to believe he was wayward and may have denied the faith for it. Hence, though it was clear to Peter that it was lawful to eat such animals which the Lord had cleansed, it was not expedient for him to do so as he may have caused others to derail, if he did.

Heaven is going to be a great spectacle in that many things that are taken for granted on earth shall be brought to reckoning there. For instance, it may be lawful in some climes for the heads of denominations to assign sums from the purse to themselves and their friends for personal upkeep, but it is not expedient to do so, as doing so may send wrong signals into the hearts of other operatives who work for negligible income. What would have been right in the circumstance, that the ministry be not blamed, is that some regular remuneration be prescribed for the head also. The underlying factor in all of these is the faith of others. Our actions must not in any way lead to the destruction of others.

Please if there are things you do before infants which may cause the same to lose faith in God, even if the thing be “lawful” ordinarily, desist from doing it, going forward. The things you do in the office or elsewhere which no one can arrest you for but can derail another are things you should abstain from. They are faith destroyers to others and therefore should not be encouraged. Remember Christ’s admonition concerning causing any of the little ones to derail.

SOLUTION: Flee from every semblance of evil. Whatever may be construed as evil by another, even if, by your understanding, it is no evil, please run away from doing it.

Father, we look up to you in all our affairs, please help us to stand to the end in Jesus’ name. Help us to appreciate at all times what is expedient for us to do that we may not derail others in Jesus’ name. As many as may have been derailed by our past actions, please draw them back to yourself even as you forgive our past misdeeds borne out of ignorance, in Jesus’ name.
