Don’t Let Evil Overcome You

Focus: Romans 12:21 – KJV 21. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. 

1 Samuel 26:13-23

There are times in the life of a man when he would appear to be at vantage position to do certain things to advance his plans in life, which things are ordinarily ungodly. And because they are ungodly, they do not have the support of God in any way, no matter what we think. It is the command of God for instance, that we should not kill. If therefore, it happens that a seeming enemy becomes vulnerable and we are at an advantage over him to strike and kill, if we do kill him, we will not be guiltless. David was in such a situation: Saul had done so much evil towards him but one day became so vulnerable. Rather than take advantage of the vulnerability of Saul, David overcame evil with good by withholding his hands from killing. The point is, if David had struck the king on that occasion, he would not have been different from other evil doers. The people of the world would justify the killing as something done in self-defense. But how God would view it is what is material. There is no other definition for evil than what it is.

Since we claim to be of God, let the difference between us and the world be clear and glaring. Anytime we yield to evil such that we are found in it, we are not different from the world that we are called to cure. Even though we are called into righteousness, when evil is found in us, we are said to have been overcome by it. Never should we be identified with evil as the children of the righteous God. To forestall being overcome by evil, there is need to consciously ensure all our thoughts and actions end in righteousness, which is only measured by love. The test should be that, without what the other party has done or left undone, will our action be judged righteous by an incorrupt judge? If yes, then it is the right thing to do; otherwise, then we may just have allowed evil to overcome us and we are bound to answer to God.

In any way that the enemy is clouding the acts of our neighbor for us to see the same as something we must avenge, may the Lord cause His wind to blow away every such cloud in the name of Jesus Christ. The power to always stand for the good even when evil is pushed our ways, may the Lord give to us today in Jesus’ name. In every way that the enemy is making effort to tempt us with evil so that we may also be overcome by evil, may the Lord fight for us even now, in Jesus’ name. Everything that is in our possession that may be source of being overcome by evil, may the Lord separate it from us in Jesus’ name. By the power in the blood of Jesus, every effect of being overcome of evil in the past, is cleansed away right now in Jesus’ name. 

SOLUTION: Let us with conscious effort avoid evil deeds, no matter the circumstance and the Lord will give us the courage to stand and to overcome.
