Emulating Precedents

Focus: Romans 15:4 KJV: “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”

Our God is one who hates waste and therefore, will not allow those who believe in Him to keep reinventing the wheel. For all good intents and purposes therefore, He has inspired the scripting of the activities of those who had passed the same paths we find ourselves and has made the scripts available unto us so that we may learn and emulate the good deeds of these people and avoid the booby traps that they got entangled by. For those who refuse to get schooled in these scripts, the experiences shared in them become a waste and unprofitable. That is not the mind of God for the believer.

Joshua drew strength from the historical victories of Moses written down before his time. Facing the daunting task of conquering Canaan, these recorded scriptures gave him the patience and comfort needed to lead Israel forward, proving that ancient promises fuel present hope. Israel knew to rebuild the destroyed temple of God from the written records of the antecedents borne by their forebears. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ declared that He did not come to abolish the law and the prophets but to fulfil them. From the assertions of Prophet Isaiah, He taught us that we are the light of the world that must arise, and shine.

The Lord is calling us out today to stop making a waste of the investment He had put into our development through the experience of those who had gone before. Our eyes of understanding will be enlightened if we take the time to learn from the experience of others, documented for our purposes.

Prayer:

Thank you, father for your word which is forever settled in heaven. Help me to devote more time to the study of your word so that it may shed great light upon my affairs and give me the grace and ability to overcome the snares of the enemy. Let me never be one of those that will turn your resources to waste. Let me continue to profit in the experience of others that are gone by, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please share. God bless you.
