God’s Will, Not Ours

Focus: 1 Chronicles 17:1-4 KJV: "Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains. Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee. And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in..."

God values our heart posture more than our hands' production. King David desired to build a magnificent temple for God, but God intercepted the plan. God retains the sovereign right to say "no" or "not yet" to our best intentions, redirecting our zeal according to His perfect timing, and will.

David sat in his luxurious palace and felt deep conviction that God’s presence was still housed in a temporary tent. His desire to build the temple was pure, selfless, and rooted in deep gratitude. God stepped in through Nathan the prophet and explicitly told David he could not build God a house. God later explained it was because David had been a man of war and had shed much blood. The assignment belonged to his son, Solomon. Instead of throwing a tantrum or abandoning the vision altogether because he couldn't have the credit, David gracefully accepted the boundary. He shifted his energy from building to preparing. He spent the rest of his life accumulating gold, silver, iron, and stone so that Solomon would have everything needed to succeed. David proved that true devotion means being willing to lay down our own dream so God’s greater plan can advance.

Just because a project or idea is godly doesn't mean it is God's timing or your specific assignment. Always hold your plans loosely and allow the Holy Spirit to redirect you. If God tells you "no" to a leadership position or a specific dream, look at how you can help pave the way for others. True maturity is being content to sow the seeds even if someone else gets to harvest the fruit. Be not against the will of God because of your premonitions. Rather, work to ensure God’s will is fulfilled.

Prayer:

Father, I thank you for always making your will known in our affairs. Let me never be adamant against but submissive to your will in every area of my life. Send helpers to me that will make me realise you and only you should be obeyed at all times so that I may finish strong and well, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please share. God bless you.
