2. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
Genesis 18:1-15
The world has really become a strange place where nothing is predictable. We have heard stories of criminals pretending to be people in need whereof they end up hurting their helpers. Yet, we have equally heard of well positioned people pretending to be in need and approaching the apparent needy for help to the extent that the benevolent amongst the apparent needy had their lives transformed by the pretending affluent. Hence, the wickedness of the wicked should not in any way deter any well-meaning believer from being good to strangers who may require assistance. Abraham, the father of faith is a good example of this. Even though he was alone with his wife, the one for whom he lied to Pharaoh and later, Abimelech, not wanting to be killed because of her, he was not afraid to offer love to three strange men. The thought did not cross his heart that he could be overpowered and Sarah taken by the men. Rather, he got Sarah to join him to serve them. Upon doing so, he provoked heaven to accelerate the performance of the promise of God that appeared to have lingered, almost hopelessly.
The Lord is calling us all out today to be nice to strangers despite the happenings in our world. The fact that wicked people exist is not enough a bar from doing good so much as we know that sowing and reaping will never cease on earth. But how do we balance the fact that there are now too many wicked people who pretend to be well-meaning strangers with the requirement to entertain strangers? It is a difficult thing to do just by our thoughts. It is something that we must do prayerfully. Even in the case of Abraham, no one told him the identity of those who came but he was quick to address them as “my lord”. In the same vein, if we pray the Lord to help us with the spirit of discernment to be able to do His will in this matter, He will surely equip us with the same. Some may say the days of angelic visitation are passed. How so wrong! They are still very much in our midst to support those who are the agents of the Light. There was someone who got instruction from God to proceed to a foreign land but failed to yield swiftly because of his possessions. Suddenly fire engulfed one of his cars and the inferno was put out by a stranger who was not recognized by any of the neighbors and is not known up till date. Many have said it was angelic visitation. Who knows? An angel may be lurking around to deliver your long-awaited blessings only if you will show the first act of love in the stranger’s direction.
Lord, we thank you for the ministry of angels unto believers and those called according to your purpose. Please accept our thanks in Jesus’ name. We look up to you for the spirit of discernment that we may never fall prey to the wicked world in our bid to obey your injunction to be benevolent, in Jesus’ name. In all our doings, let your Spirit reward us in multiple folds in Jesus’ name. Let not our benevolence go unrewarded in Jesus’ name. Every benefit eater or destroyer, wanting to prevent us from gaining that which is ours, please rebuke for our sakes, in Jesus’ name.
SOLUTION: Whom should we obey: God or the devil through fear? Let us obey our Lord and do as He has asked us to and rest assured that He will never leave nor forsake us, like He has promised. Please keep doing good to strangers.
If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name.
