37. Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.
Proverbs 23:4-5
In a military parade, the soldiers do march to honor a dignitary or their Commander in Chief. Whenever the parade gets close to the podium where the dignitary or Commander stands, the Brigade Commander issues a command saying simply “Eyes Right”. This is saying to the soldiers to take their eyes away from every other thing and look on the one on the stand. To them, every other thing is vain but the dignitary. In the same vein, for every soldier of the cross, everything that is not supported by the Cross of Jesus Christ is simply vanity. Everyone at this time when the return of Christ is very imminent is to take their eyes away from all vanity and focus only on Christ and His cross.
Solomon was acclaimed to be the wisest individual that lived in his days. He was so lavishly rich and with that he had a great harem of women to himself. A time came in his life that he realized what Christ later told the world that treasures are to be built up in heaven where no devourer operates on it and that in the beginning God made them one man and one woman. Hence, he came to the conclusion that amassing wealth at the expense of others and to the chagrin of the poor in society, as well as amassing women to oneself are all vanity and vexation of the spirit. Hence, he taught everyone that cares to listen that wisdom is the principal thing and in our getting we need understanding.
Friends, please do not be deceived: God is not mocked. No amount of oration and sweet words of explanation can change that which Christ already proclaimed. Putting our eyes on the things of the world including the will to be rich is vanity and, in the end, vexation of spirit. It is difficult for a rich man to enter the kingdom. Those are the words of Christ. No one who has two pieces of coats should be jubilant for as long as there is anyone without one, known to him. Of course, it means he never obeyed Christ. God is saying to us now that it is time to turn our eyes away from vanity. Vanity is everything that is of the flesh and constitute a burden to our lives and constitute food to the devouring lion. Let us rather produce fruit of the Spirit by focusing on Christ and His Cross.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for the cross through which you laid down your life for my ransom. Do help me never to shift my focus from you and your cross ever, in Jesus’ name. As I keep looking up to you, please give me the strength to always resist the devil that is luring me to shift focus on to vanity, in Jesus’ name. Please load me with your grace through which I will stand to always resist the devil and have him flee from me, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
