Key verse: 2 Corinthians 10:17-18 - KJV
17. But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 18. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
2 Timothy 2:15
The trouble that Job got into was a serious one. It was that God gave a commendation of him before the enemy. Yet he proved God right in His commendation in that despite all odds, he refused to curse his God. There are many people today who claim to know and to love God. In the face of the slightest opposition they start to sing discordant tunes about their God. The reason God so preferred Abraham was that he was commendable in ensuring that whatever he knew of God, he was sure to pass it down to generations of his children. Today, many people hold claim to Abraham’s blessings but they do not have any time to teach their children and wards about God. Hence, the true knowledge of God is thinning out in our societies. When we view the values of the current youth population, what glares one in the face mainly is moral decadence. It is not a sin to be social. But when socializing becomes immorality, it infuriates God. But it is not the fault of the young lads but that of the parents who failed to teach them properly as children in the way they should go. Some of the adults had not the right values themselves. Hence, they could not give or pass down what they did not have.
So, there is nothing to glory in if we cannot leave the earth a better place than we met it. If you have however been successful in raising your children, then congratulations. Yet, the glorying should be in the Lord who made it possible for you. Your being successful anyway should not be at your own assessment but based on God’s. What you call success is nothing compared to the fete your other contemporaries may have done. Why not therefore let God be the judge of your performance and achievements? Knowing the importance of the depth of knowledge of the Word of God in nurturing and bringing up others, Paul counseled Timothy to study and show himself approved unto God. Many carry half knowledge and are misrepresenting God all around. This is majorly responsible for the rot society has evolved into.
God counts on us to make society better. We can only do it if we learn of God deeply as approved by God and rightly teach or disciple others to know God also. When many more have the true knowledge of God, society will be better. So, let God commend you Himself.
Pray: Father, let me only glory in you and your commendation of me in Jesus name.
