Get Wisdom, Not Gold

Focus: Proverbs 8:10-11 - KJV

10. Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. 11. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

Job 28:12-19

In the minds of many, it is very crucial to seek and get wealth: many at the expense of seeking wisdom. If only they realize that wisdom is priceless and can never be compared with any form of jewel, they would rather seek wisdom than gold. For, where wisdom is found, wealth follows; and where understanding is, there will the greatest of wealth be located. They that seek to be rich in this world do lack wisdom and, in the end, have their huge regrets when they find the wealth they labored for, albeit in cunning ways, being taken over by their enemies.

There are two characters in scripture with flipped names: Nabal and Laban. Neither of them sought wisdom but wealth. Each one got wealthy but, in the end, the one they would not want to take their wealth over, took it. Jacob was to labor for nothing but women in Laban’s house, but as he sought wisdom and understanding, he not only gained Laban’s daughters but his wealth also, to his chagrin. Nabal got all the wealth and would not countenance David to give a little to him in need; at last, Nabal died and David not only took over his wife but her possessions also which was Nabal’s wealth.

The Lord is asking that we put the first things first and stop hasting after the vanities in wealth. If we pursue wisdom, we are able, like Jacob, to inherit the wealth of the brute without a fight. It is not enough to claim we are pursuing wisdom without knowing what we seek. Jesus Christ is the one to seek because He is the power and the wisdom of God and when we seek Him, He also hands us understanding through the Holy Spirit. Running after gold or rubies is not as profitable as getting wisdom. When we do have Christ, we have everything. Get Christ by following His precepts; wealth then becomes a surety.

Please pray:

My father and my God, I thank you for the extent of wisdom and understanding I have received of you. Do load me the more with the knowledge of Christ and keep me in your word, in Jesus’ name. This very day, by reason of your wisdom, let wealth locate me of its own accord; let me begin to drink the milk of the gentiles and suck the breast of kings to the glory of your name, in Jesus’ name.
