Focus: Psalms 59:17 - KJV
17. Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.
Psalms 59:1-17
As a child going to junior school, I was a very gentle, non-troublesome boy that experienced bullying from many of my classmates to the extent that whenever it was time to go to school, I was never inclined to go. My immediate elder brother, who was in another school which was on my route home, got wind of the problem I was facing with my classmates. He arranged to wait for me every day for us to return home together. On the first day of this episode, he met one of the big bully boys and challenged him for messing with me. The bully thought because he appeared bigger than my brother, he could beat him up. A wrestling match ensued and before you know it, the bully was flat on his back with my brother sitting over him commanding him to open his mouth and was fed with dirt from the earth. I was standing by with victory smile on my face. From that day, I was so emboldened that anytime anyone at all confronted me, I threatened to call my brother and that settled the bullying.
David, like me, knew his onions. The poor boy was without any special skill to fight anyone. However, knowing he had a God who would always come to his defense, he was bold enough to confront any foe. He did these things and got his victory by ensuring he confronted no battle without having his defense. Those who confronted him not knowing of the power of his God and defense, ended up being defeated so badly in a context that from outset, appeared lopsided against the poor lad.
Beloved, the same God who was David’s defense is available for us also today. Human defense, or any other form of defense outside God, have their failings. But this defense can never fail. He is mightier than the mightiest, higher than the highest, greater than the greatest and all powers in heaven and on earth reside in Him. Like David, many may be out to get you, making all brags about how they will deal with you, depending on fake things that make them to feel they can not fail against you. Be of good cheer. It does not matter what they possess, our defense is ahead of them and will feed them with the dust of the earth, for our sakes. No, He need not kill them that they may see us blossom in the Lord, but He will hold them down and incapacitate them for our sakes. Yes, they will eventually be disgraced that the name of our God and defense, may be glorified at last.
SOLUTION: The Lord said to Israel when they had nowhere to turn to: stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. As it appears there is no further escape route as all help has failed, let us turn it all unto the Lord our defense and allow Him give us victory in that seeming insurmountable battle.
Please pray: Father, the enemies surrounding me are too fierce for me to handle: I have no power of my own to confront them. Help O Lord and come in my defense against the sons of wickedness. Do not let them cause the water to overflow me; let not the enemy triumph over me dear Lord, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
