God’s Sheep

Focus: Psalms 23:1 – KJV: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

A believer is someone who is providently called into the fold of God, the Chief Shepherd, to do the will of God and follow only His leading. Typically, a sheep is an animal that is lowly and obedient to its shepherd. Hence, the believer is depicted as God’s sheep with the mind that he bears the traits of the ordinary sheep. When the sheep follows the leading of the shepherd, it lacks nothing good – nutrition, shelter, protection and guidance. This is the testimony of every believer who remains within the Lord’s fold.

Elijah had just boldly declared to the wicked King Ahab that there would be no rain or dew in the land for years. Instantly, a massive famine swept through Israel. Crops failed, economies collapsed, and resources completely dried up. Humanly speaking, Elijah was facing starvation. But God did not leave His servant to scramble for survival. The Shepherd gave clear directions, telling Elijah to hide by the brook Cherith, assuring him that He had commanded the ravens to feed Elijah there. Elijah obeyed and sat by a lonely brook in the middle of a desert. Day after day, the ravens miraculously brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank fresh water from the brook. When the brook eventually dried up due to the ongoing drought, the Shepherd simply guided him to a new pasture—the house of a widow in Zarephath, where a jar of flour and a jug of oil miraculously never ran out. Elijah proved that even when an entire nation is starving, the sheep of God's pasture will not want.

Beloved, the Lord is saying to you today that He is the God of all flesh with whom nothing is impossible, and that it does not matter the circumstances of the place where you physically are, for as long as you remain in His fold, He will sustain you and be your sufficiency. His simple demand is for you to just remain His sheep. Never allow your situation now or at any other time drive you out of His fold. Those who are outside are no longer considered sheep but dogs. They have become fierce and no longer tender and loving, obeying the shepherd’s leading. Please stay within.

Prayer:

My father and my Shepherd, I come this day to thank you for thus far you have kept me in your sufficiency. No matter what the economy of my present location indicates, I know you are there for me always. Please keep me in your fold for my upkeep till I meet with you in glory. Let no predator ever come near me or anyone in my household. Rebuke the enemy for our sakes and never allow me to ever join the dogs, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please share. God bless you.
