Honor God

Focus: 1 Samuel 2:30 - KJV
30. Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
Malachi 2:4-9
Our God is a covenant keeper who deserves to be honored and demands His honor. As He keeps covenant with His people, He expects them to give Him His due honor. It does not matter how so intimate we think we are with God, if we fail to honor Him, His position is that such a person will be lightly esteemed. Moses was a man very close to God to the extent that God described their discussion as done mouth to mouth. However, the only thing the Lord said prevented Moses from reaching the promised land was that he kept dishonoring Him before the children of Israel. The Lord promised the Levi tribe priesthood in His presence forever. However, when the sons of Eli turned themselves to sons of Belial, the Lord rejected the entire lineage from priesthood because these sons of Belial refused to honor Him as they did as they pleased, against the counsel of God.
The expectation of God from those whom He reposes confidence, is that they will handle the things of God in a way that gives Him honor. The way the ministers of God handle the things of God in this age, leaves much to be desired. All that the sons of Eli did was to arrogate to themselves entitlements of things that were God’s preserve. What ministers do today is not only to arrogate the glory and the offertories to themselves for filthy lucre, they also treat the sheep of God shabbily in that they do not afford them the proper nourishment, as the connection between them and God is lost and they just engage in lying against the Spirit of God. What more do we need do for God to feel dishonored? It is bad enough to say we do the things that God did; it is horrible to maltreat the children of God concerning whom He had said anyone that offends them ought to place a millstone around his neck and be thrown in the drink, for it was better he was not born.
Friend, it is not only when you go into a congregation, give an offering, singing and such things that you honor God. We honor Him by ensuring we follow His precepts and tenets. Speak to the rock means speak to the rock and not strike the rock. Feed my sheep means feed my sheep and not put burden on them. Your insistent on having things your way as against God’s prescription is a great dishonor unto God and it has its consequences. When God says those who despise Him would be lightly esteemed, it is that they would be left to the result of their folly, which is about putting them at the mercy of the enemy who is merciless. That is not a state anyone wants to find himself. Moses pleaded to the end, but God was done with the matter. Now that you still can, follow God’s precepts and be honored of Him in return.
SOLUTION: To honor God is to give Him what is due to Him: respect, glory, offertories and obedience. Doing otherwise is to despise Him. Please do not despise the Lord.
Please pray: Father, please take me fully over and use me for your glory. Let me forever honor you in all I do in Jesus’ name. Whatever I do, keep me in line and in tune with your precepts and preferences, in Jesus’ name.
