Ignoring the truth?

Scripture:

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." – Hosea 4:6 (KJV)

It is easy to assume that "lack of knowledge" refers to a simple lack of information or education, but in the context of Hosea, it means something deeper: a willful rejection of God. The Israelites didn't just "not know" God; they actively chose to ignore His laws and forget their covenant relationship with Him. When we stop seeking God's Word, we leave our lives vulnerable to destruction. This isn't because God is callous, but because we have stepped away from the light that protects and guides us. Ignorance of God’s character and His promises acts like a spiritual darkness, allowing fear, deception, and poor choices to take root in our lives.

True spiritual knowledge is not just "knowing about" the Bible; it is a personal, intimate relationship where we apply what we learn. To know God is to walk in His wisdom, which provides clarity and victory over life’s challenges. Understanding God's Word prevents us from being led astray by false doctrines or harmful choices. We are held responsible not just for what we know, but for what we could have learned if we had striven to find the truth. Hosea’s message is a reminder that we must return to a faithful, covenant-centered life rather than pursuing selfish idols.

Take one deliberate step today to deepen your knowledge of God. This could be starting a new Bible study, setting aside fifteen minutes for focused prayer, or specifically asking the Holy Spirit for insight on a verse that has confused you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word, which is a light unto my path. I confess that I have sometimes prioritised worldly pursuits over seeking an intimate relationship with you. Grant me a teachable heart and a hunger for your truth. Help me not only to read your Word but to live it out in obedience every day. Protect my family from the consequences of spiritual ignorance and guide us into your wisdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Please share. God bless you.
