"I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;" – Psalm 31:7 (KJV)
Like David, whenever we go through intense pressure, we need to pause to take a thought of faith. He do not have to wait for our circumstances to change before we chooses to "be glad." Instead, our joy must be rooted in the character of God—specifically His mercy. The beauty of this verse lies in two powerful realizations by David: God isn't looking at our struggles from a distance; He is closely examining them. He sees the weight we carry and the tears we shed in private. Secondly, there is a difference between knowing about someone and knowing their soul. In our hardest moments—when we feel misunderstood or lonely—God knows exactly what is happening inside us. He understands the anxiety, the fatigue, and the silent prayers that we can't even put into words.
Because we are fully seen and deeply known by a merciful Father, we don't have to be crushed by our "adversities." We can rejoice, not in the trouble itself, but in the fact that we are never facing it alone. Imagine David’s travail when his king turned his own people including his wife against him with a view to ending his life. Yet, he knew God was there for and with him. Hence, he stood firm in faith, took a flight for safety and hid himself in a cave with his Psalms not departing from his lips with the assurance that God is always available to hear his cry.
Gladness is often a decision we make based on God's mercy rather than our current feelings. Even when we feel overlooked by the world, the Creator of the universe is "considering" our situation. God’s knowledge of us is most intimate during our struggles. He is a "very present help" in times of trouble. Take these to heart today and rest assured that God will come through for you in your present troubles. Joy is coming.
Prayer
Lord, I thank you that your mercy is new every morning. Even when I walk through seasons of trouble, I am comforted knowing that you see me and you know the state of my soul. Thank you for not being a distant God, but one who stays close in adversity. I choose to rejoice in your love today, trusting that you are working in the details of my life. Please arise for my rescue, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Please share. God bless you.
