2. But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.
Acts 16:22-30
God is forever true and His words are settled. No matter what anyone does to the minister of the Gospel, for as long as he does not faint, God will stand by and avail him. The world in which we are, hitches to eradicate the Gospel and therefore, torments all those who appear to still spread it. However, the place of the believer has not changed. His charge from the Lord is to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. That commission does not have any rider to it saying, “when there is no opposition”.
We are not the first to be tormented for the sake of the Gospel. Incidentally, the tormentors, having been deceived by the devil, believe they are working for God. Paul and Silas were opposed by the people and the magistrates who claimed they were teaching strange doctrines and therefore incarcerated them in what we can call the maximum-security prison. But these emissaries of God could not be deterred. They contended for the faith and God showed on their behalf such that the jailor got converted.
Nothing should be strong enough to separate us from the love of our God. Despite the threat of death, Daniel contended for his faith. What is it that the enemy is threatening us with to make us want to abdicate the Lord’s calling and duty? There is nothing so strong that should achieve that in us for our God is greater than and is able to, make us overcome every affliction, if we stand with Him and stay in the way He has shown us.
Please pray:
Thank you, father for not allowing me to faint in the face of persecution from high quarters. Please continue to strengthen me so that I will not be tempted beyond that which I can bear. Keep me warring as your soldier to the very end to keep the fire of the Gospel burning till you return. Manifest yourself in all negative situations hauled at me like you did for Daniel and also, his three Hebrew friends, in Jesus’ name. This very day, give me joy unspeakable by making me victorious over every persecution and let those responsible for it come bowing to you, in Jesus’ name.
