3. Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Galatians 5:22-26
One thing about the Spirit of God is that it has one main attribute which is love; for God is Love! That attribute is described around many virtues but the bond of it all is love. For instance, joy is reserved for those who do love, for it emanates from love. Those who do not love or are not loved often lack joy. Peace also eludes someone who lacks love because rather than experience peace, he seeks how to hurt people whom he assumes are unloving. It is love that allows for longsuffering, for if you love a person truly, there is not much the person can do to hurt you that will cause you to detest him. And therefore, you bear with him and just conclude he did not know what he was doing. And so, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance flow all from love. It follows therefore, that what unites the Spirit in us, as believers, is love.
When we love as believers, all emotions are crucified with Christ and therefore, we feel no hurt or pain no matter what anybody does. It is emotions that engender hurt and bring about negative thoughts, actions and results that are inimical to love. If we do love and crucify our emotions, it really would not matter to us who does what, to seek to draw attention to ourselves for vain glory. There was a time in scriptures when the disciples of Apollos were antagonizing those of Paul as to who was doing the more. If we do truly crucify the flesh, which is the source of emotions, there will never be strife amongst us. When a star shines, people see and acknowledge it as a shining star. When two shining stars however combine, they glow brighter than a single one. Consider then, when an aggregate of a multitude of stars unites, how so much they would dispel darkness.
The Lord wants us to combine our shining as stars, that we may together put the enemy to flight at our appearing. Unless we unite together in love, shunning all emotions and works of darkness, we are not able to attain this. In the world today, an aggregate of darkness seems to be turning off the little glow that is in many believers. How the devil achieves that is to sell a lie to the believer that causes his emotion to erupt and he sees his brother as an enemy. Meanwhile, the only enemy that man has is the devil. When however, he succeeds in causing emotions to erupt, love is lost and unity is disabled. But we can only stand when we are united. The enemy knows that much. Hence, he does all possible to cause a disunity that there may be falling. No wonder his agents are thriving in calling sentiments against the Church and the Church is wavering for it.
SOLUTION: Let there be unity through love among believers starting with you. Let no action or speech cause any emotional discontent in you to make you detest your brother. The fruit of the Spirit is love. If indeed you are regenerated and the Spirit dwells in you, then let the fruit be glaring in you, which is love.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for another day in the land of the living. On this very day, please let your love be established in me better than ever that I may only bring forth the fruit of the Spirit and operate in unity with all other well-meaning believers, in the name of Jesus. Do please help your Church that we may effectively repel the attack of the enemy bringing disunity amongst the brethren, in Jesus’ name. Let the light that shines from us attract your blessings today better than ever as you push darkness and hurt far from us, in Jesus’ name.
