8. I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
Psalms 40:1-10
God has a will, and it is decipherable. Unless and until we know His will to do, we cannot really please Him. It is not because we please Him that we are kept alive, no! It is because of His mercies which of course is part of His will which is that none should perish but come to repentance and reconciliation with Him, their God. Incidentally, there is no knowing the will of God without knowing God Himself. Those who know Him know how to stay in His will and enjoy huge benefits for so doing. The will of God is in His word as the word is God. Those who know the word of God to retain it in their hearts and do that which it prescribes, abide in His will. But care must be taken not to confuse the words of men of God with the word of God. There is a huge difference between them. It is the word of God that is forever settled and not that of the man/men of God.
David discovered the will of God by keeping the law of God in his heart. By it, he refused to hurt Saul, the anointed of God because he knew that God rebuked kings for the sake of His anointed. He was quick to repent without seeking vain excuses when he was confronted with his sins that he committed because of Bathsheba. Many would have told face saving lies and make things appear like it was not as portrayed. David knew whom he was dealing with that if he covered his sin, he would be destroyed of the devil even as the Lord would leave him to his folly. By these attributes, he was able to account for the myriad of benefits he got from the Lord. Most importantly, he presented God to others to know and love Him, thereby engaging in evangelism of sorts.
On this fateful day, the Lord is saying to us that it is not about offerings and sacrifices that make us pleasing to Him. Even if they are part of the showing of love to Him, unless we know Him and His will, we may be giving amiss, like Cain did. He wants us to seek Him truly by His word; act on the words towards pleasing Him, and teach others the same things we know as well as aid them to act likewise. Unless we do these things, we are far from the will of God, and pleasing Him. If we fail to please Him, how do we expect Him in the end to say to us ‘welcome, thou good and faithful servant?’ Our faithfulness is measured upon the doing of His will, not ours.
Please pray:
Father, thank you for the grace to know you and your will, at least to an extent. I wish to know you the more and stay fervently in your will. Give me insight into your word the more so that through it, I may operate in your will always, in Jesus’ name. Every manipulative stance from the pit of hell, wanting to sell a lie to me like the serpent sold to Eve, please rebuke the same for my sake today, in Jesus’ name. Let my knowledge of your will and doing the same translate into huge blessings, protection, promotion, prosperity, health and peace of mind unto me from today, in Jesus’ mighty name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
