9. And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.
1 Chronicles 29:15
It is the beginning of the eleventh month, Hallelujah! Blessed be God for His mercies over our lives. May we continue to enjoy His grace in Jesus’ name. The life of every man on earth is quite short compared to what is available in eternity. Incidentally, the life expectancy of man, within that spate of time that is considered short, has grossly been on decline from the existence of man, until now. Yes, science is thriving and making effort to ensure that man lives at least for a hundred and twenty years, going forward, yet it is nothing compared to the lives of men that lived from Abraham to his forebears. It is clear then that the life we have here should not be allowed to impact our eternity negatively as it is clearly too short. We are only passing by as sojourners and pilgrims. Our real home is where we get located in eternity: some to the right and others to the left.
Jacob acknowledged that he was of a hundred and thirty short years. His father, Isaac was of a hundred and eighty whilst the grandfather was a hundred and forty-five. The great grandfather, Terah was of two hundred and five years. All of them that were before Jacob had better years than he; and even from him, the number of years continued to decline. Meanwhile, a thousand years of life on earth in the Lord’s presence is merely like a watch in the night and not even up to a day. Invariably, the life of man is rather too short for any man to blow up his take in eternity by leading it recklessly. When Lazarus was done with his pilgrimage, he returned home and was found in Abraham’s bosom, the one who had completed his own pilgrimage ahead.
There is no one who has come to the earth to stay forever. If there is no transition by physical death, it comes by some other means. But no one is retained here for up to a watch in the night. The Lord is therefore drawing our attention to the need for us to review our ways and return to the righteous paths so that we do not end our pilgrimage on earth on the evil side. They that will be so found will spend eternity on the left side characterized with pains, suffering, weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. Whereas, the righteous will be admitted to the right side where there will be joy everlasting without night but perpetual day, devoid of suffering in any way. Let us all be this conscious and aim for righteousness always. Eternity is real and key. Happy New Month!
