25. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
John 12:23-26
The life of a man is quite important not only to himself but also to God. Although the life that God wants for him is that of heaven on earth, by reason of corruption upon the earth, he is not able to attain that by ordinary means. He can only do so if he becomes violent and take it by force. What he so takes is not just current life, but eternal life. But such life is not afforded him unless he first surrenders it to the giver of life by not over-countenancing it like the world does, but by allowing it to be lived by the Lord Himself. For every life that is released to the Lord even though it appears lost to ordinary observers, it is actually kept and re-presented to the owner in a more vibrant manner, not only for longevity but also for eternity.
Nabal loved his life more than necessary and thought of guarding it for his personal pleasure. Because he did not possess the capacity to give life by himself, he lost the same life he sought to preserve. David was extremely thirsty and men risked their lives to sustain his own by going to seek water for him in the midst of crass enemies. When he got the water, he did not count his life worthy of the blood of those who went to fetch the water. He therefore poured the water out to the giver of life. Not only did he live long, his dynasty was sustained and it will seem that he would be part of those who would make eternity by reason of their works in the days of ignorance.
Many today forget the brevity of life in the current sphere and therefore go about choosing to love their lives more than they love God, thereby putting themselves at the verge of losing the same life now and in eternity. God’s mind for us is that we enter into His rest through all that He has prepared for us. Unless and until we submit our lives in the form of losing it to ourselves, we cannot find the same. The life of a grain of wheat thrown into the earth appears as lost; but when it is so thrown, it is sown and sprouts to get a new life. This is what the Lord is inviting us to by asking that we sow our lives unto Him by losing it to ourselves. Do not over pamper this body of straw so that we may gain the celestial body promised us in eternity.
Please pray:
Thank you, father for your love for my life. Please let my life remain attractive to you, in Jesus’ name. I surrender my life to you; I know that as I do so, you will live the same in a way pleasing to yourself so that I may regain my life in a manner that suits your purpose in Jesus’ name. In all things, please let my life remain preserved in you to eternity, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
