Focus: 1 Peter 2:11 - KJV
11. Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
1 Peter 2:11-12
It is a known fact that everyone that belongs to God through Christ Jesus is a citizen of the Kingdom of God. As a result, they are mere pilgrims and strangers on earth. The culture of the Red Indians is very different from that of the Europeans that came to occupy their lands. As their cultures could not mix, so should the heavenly citizen maintain the culture of heaven without allowing the culture of the world to get him polluted. Part of the distinguishing feature of a worldly citizen is fleshly lusts. Having received the Spirit that raised Christ from the dead, the pilgrim is a living soul in the similitude of the first man before the fall. What made the first man to fall is akin to fleshly lust. Once lust was formed in him and it graduated into performance, he lost the Spirit that made him a living soul. So as not to fall into the same trap of the enemy that the first man fell into, the pilgrim is enjoined to completely eschew fleshly lust which is the custom of the world as, if he doesn’t, he endangers his soul and may thereby forfeit his Kingdom citizenship.
Dear friend, it is not everything that glitters that is gold. Those things that glare us in the face, enticing us to sin are inimical to our wellbeing. If only we will determine to live our lives on this side of eternity as pilgrims whose culture is different from the one in which we find ourselves, then are we able to hold forth until our Lover comes to takes us home to our land of nativity, the heavenly Kingdom where there is neither weeping nor sorrow. Neither is there any night there but day perpetually. The joy there is indescribable. We must abstain completely from fleshly lusts so that it doesn’t prevent us from making it.
SOLUTION: Please make a covenant with your eyes and indeed your entire being not to ever yield to the enticement of the enemy through fleshly lusts. It is only those who are kept pure to the end that will make it.
Father, please by your mercy keep us pure and far from fleshly lusts in Jesus’ name. Every luring from the pit of hell aimed at destroying our souls, we come against it by the power in the blood of Jesus in Jesus’ name. Please let your Spirit guide us to full success in you to the very end Lord, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Flee fleshly lusts. It destroys.
