Love Covers Sin

Focus: 1 Peter 4:8 - KJV

8. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

James 5:16-20

The word love is too loosely used among men and that accounts for why many do not know its import. Where love is found, there is neither grudge, envy, provocation and the likes which may bring about a negative reaction. Love is life and therefore tends to offer life always. Anything to the contrary: manipulation, lies, deceit and hypocritical mockery are never loving. They aim to steal from the victim, kill and destroy him. If we do love a person, we are blinded to his faults, or what some would call sins, because with love, those faults are nonexistent.

The reason Jesus was given for mankind is love, and He demonstrated it when he walked among men. He was accused of drinking and dining with sinners. But He did not seem to see their sin; rather He saw perishing souls that required redemption. He offered them His love rather than countenance their sins. There was one who was said to have been caught in adultery. To the ordinary man, she was callous, wicked and sinful and ought to die; but to the lover of our souls, she deserved life because no lover wants the destruction of his heartthrob. Many times, He healed the sick and told them to go and sin no more. He knew they sinned before healing them; but the love in Him for them obliviated their sin.

The Lord is opening our eyes to the essence of love in our everyday lives. If we will allow love to reign in our hearts towards our fellow men, even if they sinned against us, our love for them will make their sin inconsequential. Of course, the Lord is reminding us of how much we ourselves have sinned and He refuses to look at us from that prism but from the place of love. If we refuse to love them that hurt us, should God decide not to love us when we hurt Him? Meanwhile, if He marks iniquity, none can stand. Let us therefore, allow love to prevail always, and not our hurts.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you for the love you show at all times through your mercy that has prevented the enemy from consuming me. Give me the fortitude to equally love others and look away from their wrongdoings so that goodness may flow from me to them despite their ways, in Jesus’ name. Let love be the driver of my life from now on, in Jesus’ name. As I love those around me, let them also imbibe the culture by loving and forgiving others, in Jesus’ name. Let love be found more rampant in the midst of the brethren, by your power, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
